Riding Lessons

Hello, I am Sonya Weeks, Horse-girls's Riding Instruction!!!

    I am offering lessons for beginner riders in Western and English equitation here at J-Six Equestrian Center. My mission is to teach people how to safely and correctly handle and ride horses. I would like to tell you a little about my horse history. I have a lifetime of experience in riding , training and showing my own horses, but no structured education in teaching riding as of yet. Horses are my passion but I am always learning still after 25 years of experience.

    I picked my gelding , Buster out the day he was born, when I was just 3 years old. He is now mostly retired but is helping me to teach my own three kids to ride and teaching my young horses how to be great horses. I began taking lessons at 4 years old with a neighbor in my home town of Amando, Arizona on a black Shetland pony named Cha-chi, she became my 5th birthday present along with her harness and cart. I showed her in my first horse show at age 9. I learned so much from that little pony!!! I showed my gelding , his mother and grandmother in shows for my entire ten year 4-H career in both 4-H and SAILW (Southern Arizona Livestock Association). I have participated in several natural horsemanship clinics here at J-Six and even showed in the last Western SEAHA show, after 10 years out of the show ring.

    Besides my gelding Buster, I currently have three other horses and three ponies, a dairy calf, three dogs and about 7 cats. I am a wife and mother of three, currently going to college online with Franklin University, in pursuit of my Bachelors degree in Business so my life is very busy. I will be scheduling lessons by appointment, trying to limit my days to just 2-3 a week, so I can keep up with it all! I accept cash for lessons and currently my rate is $25 for a hour which includes lunging, grooming , tacking and riding. I look forward to helping you become an excellent rider!!
